about

This album has the city of Portland, OR as its inspiration and this is another one with this town at its center. Mike Moore: " We rehearse at Mitchs home up in the hills just west of downtown. I have driven many dark rainy nights up West Burnside Ave and observed couples arguing as well as individuals male and female openly weeping as they walk along that busy street. They were the initial inspiration for this song. To be fair, the writer has also seen plenty of laughter, love and happiness along the same street!

Our character walks the streets in sadness and frustration trying to talk to his ex and try to make things right. Clearly he has taken his sweet time getting back to her. He knocks at her door repeatedly and gets no answer. He sleeps under the front stair awaiting her return. He tries one last time and is greeted by a fat old man who derisively informs him that she moved away months ago and that he should beat it!

BTW, a Webfoot is a Portlander.

lyrics

Webfoot’s Lament

The wind blows cold and hard as sin
I knock but you won’t let me in.
The porch is dark I’ll try again.
At the doorway to your heart.

The rain is coming down in sheets
As I walk these lonely Portland Streets
Alone its just the skids and me
I knew how it would end

Bridge
Still I see you standing there, drying off your long dark hair
Faint smile upon your face, have mercy on a hardboiled case like me.

The lights are off the bars are closed,
No place to dry off I suppose.
This endless night keeps rolling on
I guess that I’ll walk on.

I’ll stagger down to Ankeny,
a drink might cure what’s ailing me.
Forget about your long dark hair
Guess I’ll sleep under the stairs.

Bridge:
Now a locked door’s all I see, there’s no smile there for me
Pain and heartache, suffering is all the night is offering
To me.

I’ll try the door just one more time
Persistence ain’t an awful crime
My knock awakes a fat old man,
And he laughs right in my face.

He says you mean you didn’t know?
She moved to Jersey months ago.
She left cause she was feeling low
Now you better hit the road.

Bridge
Still I see you standing there, drying off your long dark hair
Faint smile upon your face, have mercy on a hardboiled case like me.

about

Shorty and the Mustangs Portland, Oregon

Shorty & the Mustangs was formed in 1996. Big Tex called some of his musician friends to see if they wanted to try something new. Having grown up in Texas, western swing music was calling him home. So they dug out some old Bob Wills and Ernest Tubb records and gave it a shot. The last 10 years the band has created original material with Mr's Wills and Tubb as inspiration.See below and enjoy! ... more
